Easy does it
Riello UPS has added a new range of transformerless online UPS systems to its portfolio. Designed for smaller data centres and mission critical environments, the 10-20 kVA Sentryum range has fewer components, cables and connections than Riello’s best-selling Multi Sentry (MST) series for a more compact design and easier maintenance. The UPS comes in 10, 15, and 20 kVA versions and a choice of three frame sizes to suit different space and battery runtime requirements. The range delivers full-rated unity power, with an operating efficiency of 96.5% in double conversion online mode, even at loads of 50-75%. Up to eight Sentryum units can be used in parallel to scale up capacity or provide redundancy.
Barracuda Networks is addressing potential security risks associated with the deployment of SD-WAN products by including new automation capabilities in release 8 of its CloudGen Firewall. These are designed to streamline SDWAN management, optimise cloud connectivity, automate scalable protection across multi-cloud deployments and provide visibility and control for successful implementations. Klaus Gheri, VP of Network Security at Barracuda, said: “Many SD-WAN products require days to deploy and can introduce vulnerabilities if not correctly configured. Barracuda CloudGen Firewall provides an all-in-one SDWAN solution that’s integrated with public cloud infrastructure, providing organisations with the security and connectivity they need with automation that will make their lives easier.”
Comfort and control
Rugged device specialist Conker has launched the SX50 barcode scanner for environments where accurate and reliable barcode scanning is needed for data capture, data analytics and productivity. Ideal for organisations aiming to replace paper-based processes for receipt and delivery of goods, ‘pick packing’ and inventory management, fulfilment and delivery, the IP67-rated Android 7.0 handheld device features an integrated 2D barcode scanner, an Octa-core processor, 32GB storage, dual SIM capabilities and an optional pistol grip for control and comfort during repetitive scanning tasks.
Compact and energy-efficient
Toshiba claims that its new XD5 series of Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSDs is a cost-effective replacement for SATA-based data centres (DC). Offering comparable or better performance than a SATA-based offering and a lower operational expenditure (OPEX) than highend NVMe drives, the XD5 series is available in a choice of form factors, with capacities from 960GB to 3.84TB. Because it consumes up to three times less energy than enterprise class NVMe drives, it produces less heat enabling a more compact server design.
Double the fun
IFA 2019 in Berlin saw the unveiling of a new LG G-series smartphone with in-display fingerprint sensor, the LG G8X ThinQ, and an improved LG Dual Screen accessory that provides an additional 6.4in display for enhanced productivity and multi-tasking. The LG Dual Screen boasts a number of advances on the original model launched at MWC 2019, including an additional 2.1-inch Cover Display that lets users check time, date, battery charge, notifications etc. without having to open the Dual Screen; a 360 Freestop Hinge, which allows viewing at any angle; and the ability to connect to a smartphone by USB.
Pull to scan
Reel is a new ‘pull-to-scan’ wearable for environments with low-frequency barcode scanning requirements, such as quality control and product returns. The 89 euro device works with all MARK series scanners and is quickly accessible via a lanyard or belt clip. As soon as its 70 cm Aramid thread is pulled, Reel triggers the scan engine, enabling workers to scan items within their reach, without having to carry a heavy, bulky pistol scanner. Customisable attachment positions ensure there is no contact with sensitive items.
