Business transformation involves a significant shift in a company’s daily operations, with these changes needing to feature heavily in its forward business strategy. Changes include identifying what needs to be improved, putting a strategy in place to achieve those improvements, tracking activities along the way and evaluating the outcome.

While this may sound like an overwhelming process to commit to for some business owners, we should remind ourselves that ultimately, business is in a state of constant flux. Transformation should not be seen as a challenge but more as an opportunity to review strategies to align people, processes and technology to a core mission and vision. Irrespective of the industry, companies need to evolve if they want to thrive in an ever-changing business environment.

 Technology has an incredible power to influence change and in some cases expedite it considerably, with most professionals citing regular technological advances as a key reason for pursuing business transformation. As time passes and business evolves, technology develops at 10 times the rate, and failure to stay up to speed with technological advances can be the downfall of many successful businesses.

Digital transformation is the implementation of digital technology into all areas of a business, essentially changing how it operates and delivers services to its customers. For many businesses however, this type of transformation can hinder results as well as success, and can eliminate the originality of an initial business idea completely. However, for the IT channel industry, digital transformation can enable a company to run more efficiently and effectively. Technology is already an integral part of doing business in today’s world and with the rise of remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic, many new methods of collaborating and communicating have come to light. A full digital transformation is a time-consuming process but if done correctly, it can save IT channel businesses both time and money.

Looking after the people

Day by day, the world becomes more heavily led by technology. Members of the IT channel industry must remember the importance of looking after employees and providing them with the correct support and training, whilst also ensuring that they remain relevant in this age of constant technological change. As the capabilities of technology become more complex, so do the demands of customers, meaning company strategies and employees’ needs change.

People are just as important as the new technologies themselves. Without the skills and talents of employees, companies would be unable to adapt to a more digital way of working. Those companies that fail to focus on technological changes will risk losing valuable customers, as well as fail to attract the next generation of talent needed to take their business to the next level.

When it comes to technology and digital transformation, the mindset of those within the business is what drives success and the likelihood of reaching the end goal, which is the company adopting a culture where digital ways of working are second nature.

The ever-changing business world

 For many industries, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen them adopt a partial and in many cases full digital transformation sooner rather than later, proving it is possible to make the switch to more online ways of working. The ability for so many industries to work remotely has created a new way of thinking in how money and resources are used and how it is now possible for some tasks to be carried out entirely with technology. Digital transformation is already well underway in the business world, and now is the time for corporations to embrace the changes and educate themselves on how to prepare the business and their employees for what is to come.

Technology is the main driver for business transformation, with artificial intelligence and automation being just two examples of ways in which job roles have changed due to the way technology has progressed. Already, there are machines with the ability to complete some tasks that humans had difficulty with 10 years ago, so with this in mind, businesses must now be ready for the ground-breaking technology that is still to come and how much more it will be able to do to help them in another 10 years.
