Bringing it all in-house

Fast growing automotive brand Comline Auto Parts is saving tens of thousands of pounds by digitising outbound customer communications with Lasernet Output Management

After changing its ERP system from Sage to Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), Comline Auto Parts encountered numerous challenges in the production of business documents, which was costing it time and money.

In particular, the supplier of aftermarket replacement parts found that with D365 it was unable to design a sales invoice that met its brand requirements and that internal users were unable to modify business documents independently.

Instead, Comline Auto Parts had to customise output documents in D365, which was time-consuming and increasingly costly, as a developer from Microsoft Partner DXC Technology was often required to carry out this labour-intensive work.

Significant customisation was also needed to issue invoices in XML format, required by specific external
stakeholders, while an inability to create customer-facing documents that were consistent, correctly aligned and formatted was putting the company’s professionalism and brand reputation at risk.

Faced with the high cost of using an external developer to customise all invoices, Comline took the decision to install Formpipe’s Lasernet Output Management solution, which gives users the ability to create, distribute and archive customer-facing documents such as invoices, purchase orders and remittance advice slips in any format (e-mail, fax, PDF, PDF/A, EDI, XML) in an intelligent and structured manner.

The first stage of the project took two months, from installation and configuration of a specially tailored solution to training and development, with Formpipe helping Comline to develop their XML invoices and providing its IT department with the training and resources to become self-sufficient in forms development.

So successful has the use of Lasernet been for invoicing that Comline has now extended it to other areas of the business, enabling employees to design and edit a wide range of documents in-house, using the solution’s intuitive drag-anddrop interface to implement design changes within just minutes.

Shalin Kamdar, Director of Comline Auto Parts Limited, has nothing but praise for Formpipe Lasernet. “I can’t recommend Lasernet enough. After a bit of training, it’s highly intuitive to use, easy to implement and has had huge results for our business,” he said.

“We can now design and implement changes to our business document formats quicker than previously. It is also more cost effective for us to use Lasernet. Over time, this will lead to a significant saving in time and money for the business. Prior to implementing Lasernet, each invoice customisation would have cost us around £10,000 per country.”

Formpipe Lasernet, a specialist division of Formpipe Software AB, is a Microsoft Gold Partner and member of Microsoft’s Technology Adoption Program (TAP). Sold and supported through a certified network of partners, Lasernet delivers business documents in almost any format and offers unrivalled integration with Microsoft Dynamics 365, NAV, SAP, Infor and other ERP solutions.
